Customs training

Training services

The aim of the training is to prepare students to be able to facilitate the preparation of customs declarations and/or manage the customs processes associated with duty reliefs, preferential trade, etc.

At the present time, HM Government training grants are available.  We would be pleased to guide you through the application process and ensure that you are able to recover the cost of the training that we offer.

Introduction to customs

We provide a one-day course which introduces the key customs concepts and terminology.  The course is comprised of two three-hour sessions and provides an introduction to:

  • Customs declarations.

  • Customs Freight Simplified Procedures (CFSP).

  • Transit.

  • Tariff classification.

  • Valuation.

  • Origin.

  • Duty reliefs.

  • Import VAT.

Enhanced training

With the exception of import VAT, we also offer enhanced training in the above the areas.  Customs declarations and CFSP are combined into one. Again, each course is provided in two three-hour sessions.

Enhanced training packages

In addition to individual one-day courses, we provide packages that combine five one-day sessions.  In general, we recommend a combination of the following:

  • Introduction to Customs

  • Customs declarations and CFSP.

  • Tariff classification.

  • Valuation.

  • Origin.

Tariff classification master class

A masterclass in tariff classification is also available which requires four three-hour tutor sessions, four three-hour session of directed study and two three-hour workshops where the classification of example goods are considered.

Training events

For teams of five or more, we are generally able to provide dedicated training sessions.  However, in this busy time we will sometimes look to combine groups with prior agreement.  At this time, all our training is provided online.

For individuals or teams under five, we offer mixed group sessions.

In general, the training sessions are held in the morning and afternoon.  Alternatively, for groups of five or more they can be held on consecutive days or weeks.

Details

Our training is undertaken by Steve Cock who has spent 30 years in the field of customs, both as a Senior Officer within HM Customs & Excise and then in senior positions within customs practice. Steve has recently helped to set up and manage the UK Customs Academy on behalf of HM Revenue & Customs and provided its first public webinar.
